Optical/Laser Meteorological Precipitation Sensor

The optical/laser precipitation sensor is a modern disdrometer for the comprehensive measurement of all types of precipitation. The sensor captures both the size and velocity of falling particles, classifying them into one of 32 size and velocity classes. The raw data is used to calculate the type, quantity, intensity, and kinetic energy of precipitation, precipitation visibility, and equivalent radar reflectivity.

Using a 24 GHz Doppler radar, measure the velocity of all forms of water. These include rain, freezing rain, hail, snow, and sleet.
The low-energy sensor detects precipitation from the first drop. Its possible uses are unlimited, whether in hydrology and water resource management, agricultural and environmental sciences, building automation, meteorology, or airport and traffic control.
